10 Blog Resolutions for the New Year

by Obaidul Haque on December 28, 2011

Making resolutions for the new year is easy. What's difficult is to keep them.

The new year is almost upon us. It’s that time again when we start analyzing our past (both professionally and personally), identify the changes that we like to see and resolve to follow through on them. As a blogger, I too have made a top ten list of my new year’s resolutions. Making resolutions is like setting goals. What’s really important is that you’re highly committed to keep them.

Here’s the list of my top ten blogging resolutions for the new year.

#1. Write More Consistently
When I started this blog, I hoped I could write one blog post everyday. But, I found it to be quite an effort, particularly when I’m busy with my full-time job for the most part of the day. So I made up my mind to write one blog post at least every other day. I hope to continue with it, as it’s now one of my top new year’s resolutions (as far as blogging is concerned).

#2. Publish 3-4 Guest Posts Every Month
I’ve been guest posting for a long time, long before I launched this blog. I’ve guest-blogged for multiple travel blogs, social media blogs, internet marketing blogs, SEO blogs etc. You can view some of my guest posts on blogs like Famous Bloggers, StayonSearch, Social Media Today, Basic Blog Tips etc. Though I’ve enjoyed every minute of this enriching experience, I plan to add more consistency to it this new year – at least 3-4 guest posts every month. Do you know how to write a quality guest post?

#3. Connect with More Niche Bloggers
Thanks to a medium like blogging that I’ve been able to connect with several top quality bloggers, internet marketers and social media professionals. Today, I’ve friends from almost every part of the world. Whether you want to seek expert advice, learn new things or bring your blog more popularity, connecting with niche bloggers is a best recommendation. So, the new year will definitely find me getting in touch with more niche bloggers.

#4. Respond to Every Single Blog Comment
Commenting is one of those blogging activities that I’ve always favored. Though many see commenting as a waste of time, I consider it the lifeblood of the blogosphere. I can never imagine a blog with no comments at all. Since I appreciate the value that commenting brings to a blog, my new year’s resolution also includes replying to every single comment on my own blog.

#5. Increase Twitter Followers Count
Though I’m yet to see tangible results from my Twitter activities (which I of course need to enhance), I can never ignore the potential of Twitter when it comes to getting backlinks or attracting blog traffic. I’ve resolved to take my followers count on Twitter to ten thousands. Currently, it’s at 3,800+.

#6. Get Active on Yahoo Answers
There’s no doubt that Yahoo Answers is an excellent platform to ask, answer and discover. If you know how to score more points, get the most votes for your answers and add value to the Yahoo Answers community, you can use this social platform for attracting quality traffic to your blog. I’ll participate more actively on this platform in the new year.

#7. Link Out Generously
Outbound linking doesn’t only increase the SE score of your blog, but it also compels readers to repeat their visits. Every blog post that I write, I wish to make it a valuable resource on that particular topic. You’ll definitely notice this as you read more of my blog posts. You would certainly want to read my guest post on this topic which I published on StayonSearch – Six Outbound Linking Tips for Free blog Promotion. That’s a wonderful new year’s blogging resolution, isn’t it?

#8. Learn New Blog Promotion Tips
Great content doesn’t reach readers on its own. To achieve blog growth, you must always be ready to learn new ways of free blog promotion. Till now, I’ve used social networks like Digg, StumbleUpon, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to promote my blog’s content. Guest posting has also brought me good benefits. In the new year, I’ve planned to learn more tactics to promote my blog.

#9. Enhance Productivity
Starting a blog is not a tough job. What’s actually difficult is to keep it growing. As a passionate blogger, one needs to be highly productive. Increasing my productivity is definitely at the top of my new year’s blog resolutions. If you want to add more life to your blog, you shouldn’t miss 20 Tips for Bloggers to Enhance Productivity.

#10. Follow the Best Blogging Guidelines
Since I started blogging, contributing to the growth of the blog community has always remained on the top of my mind. I always strive to abide by the best blogging guidelines, so as to keep my blog growing and attract lots of traffic. I really hope that you too follow these guidelines (though they are not written in stone) as I do in the coming year.

Well, that’s a pretty long list of new year blogging resolutions! Now that I’ve my action plan at hand, I should get to work without any delay. I think you too will find some of these resolutions useful enough to include on your list. And I hope these best practices soon become habits to me.
