Two Things to Keep Your Blog Readership Growing

A blogging strategy isn’t visible directly but its influence is certainly felt.

If it’s only your mom that reads your blog, you have got to give this matter some serious consideration. Readers (I mean the right readers) are the lifeblood of a blog. But there are still a lot of bloggers who are not so very fortunate to enjoy a good readership. Finding readers for a blog is, therefore, a big challenge for most of the bloggers out there. Most importantly, you as a passionate blogger have the responsibility to keep the readership growing on a consistent basis.

But how do you attain blog readership growth?

Well, there are two things that you should focus on – ‘strategy’ and ‘consistency’.

#1. Strategy
The absence of a strategy is the biggest reason for most of the blog failures. A blog is a social media channel that allows you take ‘audience conversations’ to the next level. Just like achieving success on Twitter requires an effective Twitter strategy, obtaining success with your blog also requires an effective blogging strategy.

When you want to develop a blogging strategy that really works, you should first have a clear understanding of what your want to achieve.

Objectives may vary from one blogger to another. You may want to use your blog to attract traffic to your company website. You may want to generate leads for your online business. You may also want to establish yourself as an expert in a specific niche. Likewise, there can be other objectives.

Once you have clearly identified the goals that you want to fulfill, you are in a better position to develop an effective strategy. It is then when you’ll be able to choose the right set of blog tools and resources.

An effective blogging strategy may include –

Choosing relevant blog topics
Writing from the readers’ point of view
Creating a blogging schedule
Having an editing system in place
Re-using blog content
Deciding the limit to being self-promotional
Promoting blog posts via appropriate channels/ mediums
Focusing on the right metrics

Though a blogging strategy isn’t visible directly, its influence is certainly felt. By having an effective strategy for your blog in place, you are able to move in the right direction and make better blog writing decisions.

#2. Consistency (or Commitment)
This one may look simpler, but it’s easier said than done. Creating a blog strategy requires time and research. But being consistent is actually your or your company’s commitment to implement (and stick to) the strategy that you have created.

Commitment is ‘doing things’ and ‘getting things done’ at the right time.

Naturally, most of the strategies are long-term. But when you want to apply those strategies, you need to take short-term actions in succession.

No matter how powerful a blog strategy you have created, you are not going to enjoy the fruit of your labor overnight. It may take you several months or even more to create a good readership or following. Till then, you have to be patient while sticking to your strategy and tweaking the same as and when required.

Today’s web is more competitive than ever. You can never expect to grow readership only by creating another blog, writing posts now and then and optimizing the content for search engines. If you’re planning to create a successful blog, be sure to work out a powerful strategy first and then be committed to stick to it.

Don’t forget to share your own opinions.

I think strategy matters the most in blogging.

Without having a blog strategy in place, it’s quite easy to lose the passion in only a couple of months of starting your blog.

So, never miss out on it!

Loved it Obaid, A blogging strategy is must in order to stay out from the crowd, setting smaller goals and working towards it. And when you achieved it, doubling it works best.
